Veronica Mars

Mix equal parts courage, compassion, brains, and sass and you get Veronica Mars—my personal hero and the main character of a TV show that rocked prime time with witty dialogue and compelling characters. I don’t understand why the show was cancelled after only three seasons. I loved watching Veronica track down dog snatchers and murderers—she was clever, tech-savvy, and passionate about justice.
The network never should have cancelled such a smart and stylish show. After all, we don’t see enough true female heroes on TV or elsewhere in the media: girls and women, who, like Veronica, are strong-minded and independent, brilliant and self-assured, brave and just. Veronica was even more likable and realistic a character because she was far from perfect. She sometimes jumped to the wrong conclusions, she didn’t always get the criminal, and she often needed a little help from her friends to outsmart the bad guys.
In addition to giving us such a classy young hero, the show balanced a complex series of mysteries. Some mysteries were solved within one episode and some spanned multiple seasons. The characters weren’t always what they seemed to be and the plotlines were sprinkled with comedy, tragedy, loyalty, and revenge. It was encouraging to see a show that believed its teen audience was smart enough to appreciate these storylines. I think TV networks should fight harder to keep such thought provoking shows on the air. Don’t you agree that we need more heroes like Veronica Mars?
As Veronica would say, “Tragedy blows through your life like a tornado, uprooting everything. Creating chaos. You wait for the dust to settle and then you choose. You can live in the wreckage and pretend it’s still the mansion you remember. Or you can crawl from the rubble and slowly rebuild.”
Cancelled! Wouldn’t you have wanted the opportunity to get to know this super-clever detective better?

Maria V. Snyder

Maria has written a series called Study. Here are the summaries of the three books.

Poison Study
About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She'll eat the best of meals, have rooms in the palace - and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the commander of Ixia.

And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dust - and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.

As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can't control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren't so clear...

Magic Study
With her greatest enemy dead, and on her way to be reunited with the family she'd been stolen from long ago, Yelena should be pleased. But though she has gained her freedom, she can't help feeling isolated in Sitia. Her Ixian background has changed her in many ways - and her new found friends and relatives don't think it's for the better...

Despite the turmoil, she's eager to start her magic training - especially as she's been given one year to harness her power or be put to death. But her plans take a radical turn when she becomes involved with a plot to reclaim Ixia's throne for a lost prince - and gets entangled in powerful rivalries with her fellow magicians.

If that wasn't bad enough, it appears her brother would love to see her dead. Luckily, Yelena has some old friends to help her with all her new enemies...

Fire Study
When word that Yelena is a soul finder - able to capture and release souls - spreads like wildfire, people grow uneasy. Already Yelena's unusual abilities and past have set her apart. As the council debates Yelena's fate, she receives a disturbing message: a plot is rising against her homeland, led by a murderous sorcerer she has defeated before...

Honor sets Yelena on a path that will test the limits of her skills, and the hope fo reuniting with her beloved spurs onward. Her journey is fought with allies, enemies, lovers and would-be assassins, each of questionable loyalty. Yelena will have but one chance to prove herself - and save the land she holds dear.

Veronica Roth

Veronica wrote her first book called Divergent a dystopian novel. At first I couldn't sleep cause all I did was read it, it was my favorite book. But now she decided to write another book the second book of Divergent called Insurgent. Divergent is all about these five factions called Amity, Condor, Dauntless, Abnegation, and Erudite. These factions each specialize in one thing. Abnegation mainly focuses on being selfless, another word for this caring for only others never your self. Dauntless are ruthless and rough they protect the city and show braveness and teamwork. Amity is all about peace they will do anything to keep things calm even lie. Condor is all about being truthful, and honest, in other words they won't lie. Erudite is the smart faction they are the ones who create things and are always reading and working. This book is about how one girl changes everything. The factions were set up so there wouldn't be another war, but then one faction decides to start a war. Enough of me spilling everything that happens go read it.
The first is Divergent.
The second is Insurgent.

Sarah Dessen

Okay so Sarah Dessen is like my new favorite author.
So far she has written 10 books. They are mainly about teen romance so like teenage girls falling in love with boys. Some of the books the boys come into the picture right away and then break the girls hearts others come later like 3/4 into the book and the characters go of to be high school lovers. But there is one book called Keeping The Moon the main idea is about a girl who finds out who she is. The difference between this book and the others is that the girl is independent she doesn't have a guy, instead she is just her with her friends.
Her books are called...

  • What Happened To Goodbye
  • Just Listen
  • The Truth About Forever
  • This Lullaby
  • Lock And Key
  • Someone Like You
  • Keeping The Moon
  • Dreamland
  • That Summer
  • Along For The Ride
